KNT.frequently asked questions
1. What, exactly, IS the KNT Entertainment Network?
We have been asked that question hundreds of times and still have trouble coming up with a good answer. Essentially, "Classic KNT" is a collection of over 1,200 original radio comedy bits, many of which have aired on stations throughout the Western U.S. and on the Armed Forces Radio Network. Some of them are timeless; you'll hear them dropped into our new programming occasionally after the lead, "KNT Rewound!" (Sort of like TV Land's "Retromercials.")
Today, the KNT Entertainment Network format blends music with a broad appeal to those of us who went to school in the '70s and early-80s, along with a big dose of comedy elements from many sources (along with our own stuff, of course). Even the "commercials" are fun!
Also, be sure to check out our history page to find out how we got this far without being arrested for creating a public nuisance.
2. No, really is KNT for real?
About as real as any other hallucination that has endured for nearly 30 years.
3. Is there a subscription fee?
KNT is a joint creative effort by volunteer hosts and guests, provided at NO COST to our listeners.
4. Why hasn't KNT gone "live" yet?
The royalty rates for playing copyrighted material on Internet radio stations were adjusted in 2007 to a level that makes it nearly impossible for most U.S. operators to afford. Congress has held hearings to address the problem, and now several lawsuits have been filed. KNT Radio's launch, originally slated for January 2008 and then pushed back to spring in order to allow time for this matter to be resolved, has now been even further delayed due to this issue. For more information and to track progress, please see our site status page.
5. Can we hear some samples in the meantime?
We have temporarily removed the audio samples due to recent technical issues brought about by manufacturer "upgrades" in the player interface, which resulted in glitches that made us sound even worse than we already do (as if that were possible). We're researching alternatives and will have new samples available shortly.
6. Can I submit material for airing on KNT Radio?
We have it in the plan to develop a submission policy and simple procedure for sending suggestions to KNT. A couple of things to consider in the meantime: 1) KNT is about 6-8 weeks ahead in its programming, and the turnaround time on qualified submissions can be several months; and 2) all submitted material must be ORIGINAL, not copyrighted (and yes, we check!) with permission granted to KNT Radio to use or alter the material at our sole discretion. Please note that we cannot pay for submitted material. Even with these realities, we very much enjoy all of the great contributions sent in by our listeners and will do everything to encourage everyone to participate in the shows.
7. I can't believe you're doing this.
Neither can we, and we've been saying the same thing for 30 years.
